Uzbekistan and Iran strengthen cooperation in quarantine and plant protection
09:00 / 2025-12-17

Director of the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection Ibrohim Ergashev paid a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The issue of organizing the export of lemons, grapes, apricots, and cherries from Uzbekistan to this country was discussed during the negotiations with the Head of the Iran Plant Protection Organization. It was noted that the phytosanitary risk analysis for these products is in its final stage, and permit issuance will be completed in the near future.

Special attention was paid during the meeting to ensuring food security. The parties considered importing potatoes from Iran that meet Uzbekistan’s phytosanitary requirements. According to preliminary estimates, import volume may range from 100 to 200 thousand tons. The Iranian government has also announced its intention to develop a state support program for potato-importing companies.

Following the negotiations, an agreement was reached to hold regular online meetings to promptly resolve emerging issues related to the export and import of agricultural products, strengthen cooperation in quarantine and plant protection, integrate national information systems, introduce an online mechanism for exchanging phytosanitary certificates, and develop a roadmap for this area.
