The dialogue between Uzbekistan and international community on protection of workers’ rights is reaching a new level.

On May 28, International Labour Organization has organized an international webinar on “After cotton: lessons learned and perspectives for Uzbekistan”. It was attended by ILO representatives, labor ministries of Uzbekistan and USA, civil society institutions, human rights organizations, as well as leading American business associations. The event also became the next step in dialogue to lift boycott of Uzbekistan textiles after an open letter from the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations Nozim Khusanov to Cotton Campaign Coalition.

First Deputy Minister of Employment and Labor Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan Erkin Mukhitdinov informed about situation in Uzbekistan labor market, presenting detailed data, some of them were announced for the first time. He highlighted five lessons learned from 2019 cotton harvest campaign, as well as forwarded a number of initiatives to jointly address issues of ensuring decent work.

Participants of the event shared their vision of further reforming decent work policy in Uzbekistan and proposals for further cooperation. The dialogue continues in a multilateral format and the Government of Uzbekistan plays a proactive role in it.
