The Embassy of Uzbekistan has organized a webinar with the participation of the leadership of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Belgian think tank South Asia Democratic Forum (SADF).
According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Benelux countries, SADF Director Paulo Casaca, SADF expert Siegfried Wolf, ISRS First Deputy Director Akramjon Nematov took part in the meeting.
Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov informed foreign participants about an event planned for July in Tashkent, which is expected to be attended by high-ranking guests, and representatives of leading expert and analytical structures specializing in Central and South Asia and connectivity issues. Official invitations to the international conference were handed over to the Belgian experts on behalf of the leadership of Uzbekistan MFA.
Mr. Akramjon Nematov revealed the main goals and objectives of the International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities”, where it is planned to present a strategic vision of strengthening connectivity in Central and South Asia, discuss specific proposals for the practical implementation of the transport and transit potential of the countries of the two regions, entering promising markets, expanding exports, attracting investments, innovations and technologies, enhancing humanitarian and tourist exchanges.
Mr. Paulo Casaca noted the importance and timeliness of the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to hold a conference on connectivity in the light of the announced withdrawal of the international coalition’s troops from Afghanistan. In his opinion, this will become a significant contribution to the socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan and the establishment of long-term peace in this country, maintaining stability and sustainable development in Eurasia. The Belgian side expressed its readiness to take part and assist in the analytical support of the forum.
