Uzbekistan and Egypt filmmakers to shoot films about Sultan Saifuddin Qutuz
12:29 / 2025-06-18

The Egypt Public Library hosted a scientific conference on “New pages in the history of Sultan Saifuddin Qutuz”, bringing together historians, writers, and artists from Uzbekistan and Egypt. Special attention was paid to creating feature films and documentaries devoted to the life and legacy of the outstanding commander.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Egypt Mansurbek Qilichev, Director of the Egypt Public Libraries Fund, Ambassador Reda Al-Taify, as well as the author of the book “Saifiddin Qutuz – The Final Blow”, published in Uzbek and English, Bekzod Abdirimov, delivered a speech at the opening of the conference. They stressed that developing joint cultural initiatives strengthens cooperation between the two friendly countries.

Sultan Saifuddin Qutuz, a native of ancient Khorezm, went down in history as one of the heroes of the Islamic world. Rising to the position of ruler of Egypt, he led troops in the Battle of Ain Jalut in 1260 and defeated the Mongols, halting their advance into the region. His fate symbolizes the deep historical connection between Central Asia and the Middle East.

The conference participants noted the importance of Qutuz’s figure not only as a military commander, but also as a symbol of common historical roots and civilizational ties between Uzbekistan and Egypt. It was proposed to implement joint film projects to bring this unique story to a broad international audience and youth.

It was emphasized that Uzbekistan – Egypt ties have deep roots: from scholars and rulers of the Middle Ages to the traditions of Al-Azhar and the Naqshbandi Order. These ties continue to develop due to the active cultural diplomacy of both countries.

The conference ended with a performance by the artists of the State Philharmonic of Uzbekistan, who presented the national dance, which became a bright accent in the event’s rich program.
