Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov held a meeting with the Director General of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Zhang Yuanming.
During the talks, organizational, legal, and structural issues related to shaping the future activities of the Central Asian Center for Environmental and Ecological Research were discussed, as were prospects for bilateral cooperation in the scientific and environmental spheres. Particular attention was paid to possible models for organizing the Center, the phased development of its human resources, including a clear delineation between permanent and project-based positions, and mechanisms to ensure the financial sustainability of the future structure and its effective functioning.

The Chinese side presented its proposals on investment support for the Center’s activities. In particular, the issue of equipping the Center with modern scientific and laboratory equipment within the framework of project-based financing was considered. In turn, the Uzbek side expressed its readiness to consider measures to provide the necessary infrastructure and create favorable conditions for the Center’s full-scale operation.

The 2026 work program of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography was also presented. The document envisages measures to register the Center, expand cooperation, implement joint research projects, enhance scientific capacity, train personnel, and ensure coverage of its activities.
