The Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov has held talks with the Head of the Administration of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Shaker Kargar.
The Afghan side expressed its sincere gratitude for constant assistance in establishing electricity supplies, as well as the ongoing policy of Uzbekistan to develop cross-border trade and create conditions for Afghan citizens to receive higher education in Uzbekistan.
It was noted that Afghanistan will take all necessary measures to carry out work on the construction of a 500 kV Surkhan – Puli-Khumri power transmission line on its territory. It was also noted that the implementation of this project is under the special control of the country's leadership.
Mohammad Shaker Kargar also highly appreciated the reforms in Uzbekistan’s energy sector aimed at increasing the volume of electricity production, one of the first results of which is the start of work on the construction of a new thermal power plant by ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia) in Syrdarya region.
The parties discussed the implementation of partner projects, as well as new promising areas of cooperation, and reached an agreement to accelerate the implementation of joint activities in these areas.
