Uzbekistan actively cooperates with the International Organization for Migration
21:49 / 2024-12-20

IOM Chief of Mission for Uzbekistan Andrew Gray visited the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the dialogue with the Chairperson of the Senate, Tanzila Narbayeva, it was noted that Uzbekistan is actively cooperating with the International Organization for Migration. It was emphasized that the organization’s activities to promote safe, orderly, and legal migration fully comply with Uzbekistan’s national priorities.

In recent years, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, special attention has been paid to migration issues at the state policy level. In particular, in 2019, ties were established as a full member of the International Organization for Migration.

Sixteen regulatory documents have been adopted to regulate labor migration processes and introduce new mechanisms. New employment mechanisms have been introduced, and educational programs, systems of preferential loans, and support for migrants who have returned to their homeland have been developed.

The parties exchanged views on diversifying labor migration markets in Uzbekistan, reducing dependence on traditional routes, and strengthening social protection for migrants.

At the meeting, the parties expressed interest in working more actively to improve migration management, ensure safe and regulated migration processes, and take practical measures to protect migrants’ rights.
