Uzbekistan 2030: Protecting flora and fauna
11:35 / 2025-12-29

As part of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, a set of measures aimed at preserving ecosystems, protecting flora and fauna, and ensuring their sustainable use is being implemented consistently.

These measures include improving mechanisms for the state registration of nurseries and plantations specializing in cultivating wild plants, as well as developing and submitting regulatory and legal documents on biodiversity to the government. Work is also underway to register flora and fauna sites and assess their condition: data on 80 nurseries have been reviewed, and a state register has been formed for 85 animal species and 70 plant species.

As part of the digitalization of green areas, more than 605,000 trees have been issued electronic passports and included in a unified information system. This enables effective monitoring of natural resource use.

Uzbekistan’s active participation was clearly demonstrated at the 20th Conference of the Parties to the CITES Convention held in Samarkand. The event served as an essential platform to discuss global issues related to the protection of endangered plant and animal species and the regulation of their trade.

Work is underway to prepare the sixth edition of the Red Data Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Based on research conducted by specialists and scientists, conclusions are being prepared on whether to include or exclude particular animal and plant species from the list.

All of this demonstrates the formation of a new, systematic, and long-term approach to biodiversity conservation and contributes to the preservation of natural resources and the maintenance of ecological balance.
