Uzbek Language – Cultural Exchange and Mutual Understanding Bridge
15:45 / 2023-10-30

The Uzbek language is becoming a bridge of interethnic dialogue with its cultural significance. Today, we will talk about Khurshid Musurmanov and Dazhen Sin, whose diligence is manifested through the knowledge and teaching of the native language, contributing to the cultural enrichment of relations between China and Uzbekistan.

Khurshid Musurmanov was born in Samarkand in 1989. After completing his studies at the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages with a degree in Chinese in 2014, he received a grant to continue his master’s in teaching Chinese to foreigners at Shanghai International Studies University in China.

After completing his studies, he stayed in Shanghai, where he began his career as a teacher of the Uzbek language to foreigners. His teaching activity began in his master’s years when he taught the Uzbek language to Chinese students and teachers of the Russian Language Department. In his work, he uses both traditional and modern teaching methods, paying particular attention to pronunciation and audio-visual materials.

Due to differences in the sound system, learning Uzbek can be difficult for foreigners, especially Chinese. That’s why Khurshid and his colleagues work hard to help students master the pronunciation and understanding of a non-native language. Due to the lack of specialized textbooks for foreigners, they are developing their materials, the main goal of which is to make the Uzbek language accessible to everyone.

Dazhen Sin arrived in Uzbekistan at the beginning of 2016 to study the Uzbek language. Over time, his affection for the Uzbek language increased, and to this day, after so many years, his interest has not faded at all. In August this year, he completed his educational journey, receiving a doctorate from the Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature. He became the first Chinese doctoral student to complete the program at this higher education institution.

As he notes, his success is impossible without enormous support from teachers, classmates, and local friends.

Dazhen Sin believes that language is a bridge of friendship and communication between people. He also recognizes the importance of proverbs and sayings as an integral, affluent part of the language. And therefore actively explores oral folk art, which significantly benefits cultural exchange.

Dazhen Sin returned to China, but his love for the Uzbek language remains unchanged. He continues to study the Uzbek language even more profoundly and plans to help the Chinese with this.
