University of Pisa’s branch to open in Tashkent

An agreement has been signed on the establishment of a branch of the University of Pisa in the city of Tashkent.

The agreement was signed by the Rector of the University of Pisa, Paolo Maria Mancarella, the Rector of the University of Geological Sciences B. Islamov, the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Geology and Mineral Resources A. Kadirkhodjayev.

The Mayor of Pisa and the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Italy also attended the signing ceremony.

The University of Pisa (Italian: Università di Pisa, UniPi) is located in Pisa, Italy. It was officially established in 1343, although several scholars claim its origin dates back to the 11th century. 

The University of Pisa is a public institution with twenty departments, and high-level research centers in the agriculture, astrophysics, computer science, engineering, medicine and veterinary medicine sectors.

UniPi is part of the Pisa University System, which includes the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. It has about 57,000 students.
