The University of Geological Sciences under the State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources was established in 2020 at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Currently, over 700 students are studying at the university for seven bachelor's and six master’s degrees. It is planned to expand these areas and specialties in accordance with the needs of the sphere. In addition, correspondence training has been established for employees with at least five years of experience in geology.
The University also has the Institute of Geology and Geophysics named after H.M. Abdullayev, the Institute of Mineral Recourses, the Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, the Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields, the Institute of Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel in the Geological Industry, the Center for Geoinnovation Technologies and the State Museum of Geology.
