UNESCO experts visit the Senate of the Oliy Majlis

UNESCO experts Olunifesi Suraj and Annette Obolensky visited the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

The experts expressed a positive opinion about the openness of information and conditions created for media and journalists in Uzbekistan.

Olunifesi Suraj noted that he became acquainted with the Digital Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy and highly appreciated the tasks it defines regarding the digitalization of the sphere.

He also noted Uzbekistan’s historic achievement at the Paris Olympics and stressed that the presence of women among the winners indicates that women’s proportion in this field is increasing.

In addition, experts stressed that foreign media widely covered the reforms implemented in Uzbekistan in recent years in each area.

At the meeting, UNESCO experts noted that research is underway to create a national strategy on media and information literacy and the important role of parliament in implementing this project.

The senators expressed their opinions on this issue and provided information on the laws adopted in this area and the results of the Senate’s parliamentary control. They also put forward proposals and recommendations on cooperating with UNESCO.

The parties also agreed on other plans that will be implemented jointly.
