The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia and Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Mr. Kaha Imnadze, paid a field visit to Namangan region on the sidelines of the 3rd International Poverty Reduction Forum “Road to Prosperity”.
While in Namangan, the UN Special Representative met with beneficiary households of the FAO Joint Project “Shared Prosperity through Cooperation in Border Regions of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan”, funded by the UN Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund. The initiative promotes transboundary socio-economic cooperation between Uzbek and Kyrgyz border communities, fosters trust between local authorities, communities, and civil society, and creates new opportunities for women and youth. Beneficiaries presented concrete results, including improved agricultural practices, strengthened livelihoods, and enhanced collaboration across borders.

“Across Central Asia, we are seeing that cooperation – both within and among countries – can translate into concrete gains for people and communities”, Mr. Imnadze said.
The field mission was organized by FAO Uzbekistan in close coordination with UNRCCA, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, and local authorities, and was attended by representatives of other UN agencies. The visit underlined the United Nations’ collective commitment to advancing peace, cooperation, and sustainable development in Uzbekistan and across Central Asia.
