The leading researcher of the International Institute for Central Asia, Farkhod Jurayev, in an interview with UzA Correspondent, touched upon the issues that caused an acute discussion during the roundtable discussion on “Central Asia: Sustainable development in an era of change”.
– The event organized at the Institute allowed for a constructive exchange of views and discussion of important issues related to the development of the Central Asian region.
The experts discussed several problems facing the region, including the situation in Afghanistan.
According to estimates of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in 2023, more than 28 million people, that is, two-thirds of the population of Afghanistan, will need humanitarian assistance and protection.
According to the World Food Programme, 93 percent of the population in this country is malnourished today, and this figure is growing rapidly.
The experts focused on strengthening the international community’s cooperation, which plays a vital role in solving the country’s problems, preventing the separation of Afghans from the world market, attracting investment, supporting technological development, and finding new trade opportunities.
The development of all sectors of the economy and, above all, such vital areas as education, healthcare, and culture will increase the standard of people’s living.
Including the issue of solving the Afghan problem in the agenda plays an essential role for our country, the region, and the entire world community.
