A meeting with a delegation led by the Mayor of Afyonkarahisar Mehmet Zeybek took place in Samarkand City Hokimiyat.

The Hokim of Samarkand Fazliddin Umarov welcoming the guests in the ancient and eternally young city, noted the further strengthening of long-standing friendly ties between Uzbekistan and Türkiye, adding that this serves to develop cooperation between the regions of the two countries in trade-economic and cultural spheres.

Relations in tourism are especially beneficial for both countries. Mehmet Zeybek confirmed these words and noted that the parties have great potential for enhancing cooperation in these and other areas. In particular, Afyonkarahisar, world-famous for its unique cuisine and national dishes, was included in the UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2019 after Gaziantep and Hatay. This includes 36 cities in the world.

A Memorandum on the establishment of twinning relations was signed to further strengthen historical and cultural ties between the two cities, exchange knowledge and experience, establish long-term cooperation.

During their visit to Samarkand, the guests visited the holy places and sights of the city.
