“Tunnel of Memory” is another way to study Jadidism
15:50 / 2024-01-15

On January 18, the Fine Arts Gallery of Uzbekistan will host an exhibition entitled “Tunnel of Memory,” dedicated to the Jadid Movement in Turkestan.

The exhibition is organized by the Public Fund for Support and Development of National Mass Media, the State Museum of Memory of Victims of Repression under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Fine Arts Gallery of Uzbekistan.

The exhibition, previously presented as part of the international conference “Jadids: Ideas of National Identity, Independence and Statehood”, held in Tashkent on December 11-12, 2023, will now open its doors to the general public.

The exhibition is dedicated to the multifaceted study of Jadidism – a movement that sought to modernize society, educate it, and build a legal democratic state in Turkestan at the dawn of the 20th century.

Through official documents, photographs, and personal belongings of the Jadids, the “Tunnel of Memory” will guide visitors through historical milestones, revealing the movement’s influence on forming national identity, independence, and statehood in the region.
