Towards strengthening the principles of social justice

An international conference on “Strengthening the principles of social justice in Uzbekistan through the harmonization of employment and social protection” was held in Tashkent.

It was attended by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Chairperson of the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Persons and Decent Work Tanzila Narbayeva, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization Gilbert Houngbo, representatives of ministries and agencies, NGOs, and the diplomatic corps.

Mrs. Narbayeva emphasized that the conference is another step towards strengthening social justice, ensuring employment and social protection of the population, strengthening the institution of human rights, reducing inequality and poverty, and improving policies in these areas.

The Director-General of the International Labour Organization Gilbert Houngbo emphasized that Uzbekistan has achieved excellent results in eradicating forced and child labor and has become an example for other countries. It was noted that the reforms launched by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and supported by social partners are comprehensive.

At the event, it was noted that protecting human rights, creating decent jobs, ensuring population employment, and strengthening the social protection of citizens are integral parts of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy.

The conference also included panel sessions on “The current state of labor standards and rights” and “Financing decent jobs for the transition to a green economy”, among other topics.

Following the event, the conference resolution was adopted.
