Tokyo Summit: A new chapter in relations between Central Asia and Japan
09:00 / 2025-12-19

The “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue contributes to the development of multilateral cooperation, the deepening of political ties, the expansion of economic and trade relations, and the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian exchange. It also enables the coordination of positions on issues of the regional and global agenda.

The initiative to establish the Dialogue was put forward by Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yoriko Kawaguchi, during her visit to Tashkent in August 2004. It envisions establishing regular, systematic dialogue, promoting sustainable development in the region, and expanding cooperation based on shared interests.

Over the years, the Dialogue has hosted meetings at the foreign minister level, senior official gatherings, and sector-specific events.

The first summit of the “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue will be a historic event that elevates this format to a qualitatively new level. During the meeting, issues related to strengthening political cooperation, expanding economic relations, and improving transport and logistics infrastructure will be discussed. It is expected that, following the summit, the parties will reaffirm their commitment to deepening cooperation and expanding long-term partnership.

This summit is of significant strategic importance for Uzbekistan. New Uzbekistan is actively advancing regional cooperation and deepening ties with Japan in innovation, investment, and technology. This is a strategically important direction that contributes to sustainable progress, economic growth, and mutually beneficial partnership in the region.

Uzbekistan is also actively promoting joint projects in developing transport corridors, advancing green energy, enhancing personnel training, and addressing environmental challenges.

The first summit of the “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue will help strengthen regional integration, advance a long-term strategic partnership, and intensify joint efforts to achieve a sustainable and secure future.
