During President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s working visit to the United States, a series of meetings and negotiations took place.
American experts participating in these events shared concrete examples of emerging areas in bilateral cooperation.
Among them was Theresa Sabonis-Helf, a Professor of the Practice and Concentration Chair for Science, Technology, and International Affairs at Georgetown University. She expressed her perspective on Uzbekistan’s role in the “C5+1” format and its partnership with the United States in green energy.
She remarked that she had been studying Central Asia for 30 years and was pleased to see that high-level meetings of this kind were becoming more frequent. She emphasized the importance of regional cooperation within the “C5” format and of developing joint strategies to strengthen trade relations.
She noted that for landlocked countries, cooperation and coordination are crucial to developing trade relations. She stated that she was closely monitoring ongoing developments in Uzbekistan, particularly initiatives related to uranium development and nuclear power plant construction.
According to her, Uzbekistan was demonstrating impressive, inspiring progress in building a next-generation energy system and was actively addressing supply-related challenges. She added that the country was implementing numerous new green energy projects, emphasizing that the development of green technologies was an important direction for Uzbekistan’s future.
She expressed her belief that trade volumes in the energy sector, particularly along the “Middle Corridor” and especially in the uranium sector, would continue to grow.
She pointed out that France was currently investing in the development of new uranium deposits in Uzbekistan and that there was strong interest from Europe and the United States in cooperation in this area.
She remarked that the summit of Central Asian and U.S. leaders was a significant event for both sides, highlighting that countries in the region were actively working together on key issues through a unified, well-organized platform.
