The World Bank allocates $46.25 million for the implementation of the iCraft project in Uzbekistan

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution “On measures to implement the project “Innovative carbon resource application in ensuring reforms in the energy sector” with the participation of the World Bank”.

According to the resolution, to implement tasks defined in the program of transition to a green economy and ensure green growth until 2030, low-carbon development of the national economy, in particular, industry, the project “Innovative carbon resource application for energy transition” (iCraft) will be implemented in Uzbekistan. For this purpose, the World Bank will allocate funds for $ 46.25 million.

The project will be implemented on a national scale during 2023-2028.

To this end, the Green Economy Project Center, established as a state institution in the system of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, will be expanded to 7 staff units at the expense of funds allocated as additional technical support from the World Bank in connection with which a project implementation group will be formed.

Green Economy online platform, including a register of greenhouse gases, will be created, and a database for collection within the framework of the monitoring, reporting, and verification system will be developed.

According to the resolution, until July 1, 2024, a green taxonomy system will be introduced, which makes it possible to classify types of economic activities in an environmentally friendly manner together with interested ministries and agencies.
