Tashkent hosted a business forum on “Energy-efficient materials and technologies in Uzbekistan: State of the market and prospects for its development for the promotion of green construction in the country”.
At the event, which was attended by local and foreign officials and experts, it was noted that today in Uzbekistan great attention is paid to the widespread introduction of energy-saving technologies and the use of alternative energy sources in the sectors of the economy, the social sphere and the construction industry.
A joint project of the UNDP in Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Construction is being implemented with the grant support of the Global Environment Fund on the assistance in the development of construction of energy-efficient rural housing in Uzbekistan for 2017-2023.
The participants of the business forum discussed the introduction of energy-saving materials and technologies within the second stage of the project, as well as the development of green construction.
The ministries of construction, energy, economic development and poverty reduction, and finance took part in the event as key national partners.
“Several measures are being taken to widely use energy-efficient technologies to preserve green nature”, says the head of department of the Ministry of Construction, Sh. Otajonov. – The Ministry cooperates with UNDP in the implementation of several projects. At the same time, in our country, the main attention is paid to the achievement of energy efficiency in housing construction. The quality of construction is under special control.
UN experts are also involved in the project. Positive results in this regard have been achieved based on their conclusions. Housing construction programs for 2022-2026 have been approved. In accordance with this, residential buildings will be built in 29 neighborhoods of the country. It is planned to build over 30 thousand houses per year. Energy-efficient technologies will be used in every home. The ministry will continue to work with the UN based on the program.
It was noted that the main goal of this project is to create decent living conditions for the rural population of Uzbekistan that do not harm the environment. About $136.6 million have been allocated for these purposes, and some work has already been done.
As Doina Munteanu, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Uzbekistan says, the UNDP cooperates with Uzbekistan in various sectors of the economy, including construction. The importance of the project that is being implemented in cooperation with local and foreign organizations was emphasized at the forum and the results of the activities were considered.
The participants also discussed reducing energy consumption in the residential sector through the implementation of energy-efficient and low-carbon technical solutions.
It was noted that an exchange of views on energy efficiency is important in the context of global climate change, which directly affects air and water quality. This requires each of us to contribute to the fight against natural disasters. In this sense, energy-efficient and low-carbon technical solutions are of particular importance in the construction industry and serve to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Uzbekistan and mitigate the effects of climate change.
A specialized exhibition of energy-saving materials and technologies of domestic and foreign manufacturers was organized at the forum.
