As part of the exhibition “Rishtan Ceramics: The Pearl of the Pottery Art of Central Asia” taking place in Washington, a masterclass and workshop on ceramics was held at the DC Clay Center with the participation of descendants of the pottery dynasty from Rishtan.
American ceramics enthusiasts, leading art historians, potters, and USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Asia Änjali Kaur attended the event.
Masterclasses were held on media coverage of Rishtan ceramics and its history, the secrets of forming Rishtan ceramics and techniques of painting and decorating with patterns, and methods of creating pigment paints from herbs.
Following the event, a distribution agreement worth $3 million was concluded between ASU Trading LLC and Exclusive Ceramic of Rishtan LLC.
With the administration of Rishtan district, USAID, and the DC Clay Center studio, an agreement was reached on establishing the Rishtan Pottery School in the United States. DC Clay Center and Alexandria Clay Co-op have agreed to offer seven-day pottery tourism packages.
An agreement was reached between the administration of Rishtan district, USAID, and the Rishtan Pottery Center on implementing the social program “Ceramic Therapy”.
In the following days, workshops are planned with the participation of Rishtan masters at the Alexandria Clay Co-op pottery studio in Virginia.
