The UN supports Uzbekistan’s initiatives

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva met with the United Nations Resident Coordinator a.i. in Uzbekistan Consuelo Vidal Bruce.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the UN and its specialized agencies. In particular, attention was focused on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring gender equality, and solving environmental problems, including mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea tragedy.

It was noted that Uzbekistan’s efforts to resolve pressing issues of regional and global significance, initiatives put forward by the President of the country within the framework of the international agenda are fully supported by the UN.

Ms. Consuelo Vidal Bruce highly appreciated the socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan and noted that the country’s cooperation with the UN has reached a new level.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue the systemic dialogue, expand projects aimed at sustainable development, protection and promotion of human rights, and, in general, strengthen the partnership.
