On July 1, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who is on an official visit to Uzbekistan at the invitation of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, got acquainted with the solar photovoltaic station ACWA POWER River Side Solar in Yuqorichirchiq district.
Information was provided on the strategy for developing green energy in the country until 2030 and the program for creating capacities in alternative energy production. It was noted that ACWA Power implemented a project worth $400 million on 460 hectares in Tashkent region. There is also a substation with a capacity of 220 megawatts. An electricity storage system with a capacity of 500 megawatt-hours will be launched in Parkent district. As a result of these efforts, 130 million cubic meters of natural gas will be saved, and the release of 180 thousand tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere will be prevented.

One of the main goals is to provide the population and economic sectors with energy resources, reduce the amount of natural gas in electricity production, and expand the use of renewable energy sources.

The Secretary-General noted the great potential for the development of solar and wind energy in Uzbekistan, as well as changes in the energy sector. He emphasized that all this is important in ensuring sustainable growth and improving the well-being of the population. The creation of photovoltaic and wind power plants will contribute to the achievement of goals and objectives in combating climate change, which is fully consistent with the UN efforts in this area.
