16:36 / 2021-09-08

An archaeological exhibition and a roundtable discussion dedicated to the results of Uzundara 2021 expedition and the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan have been organized in Ikuo Hirayama International Caravanserai of Culture of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.

The exhibition features about 100 archaeological finds discovered during excavations carried out in 2021, about forty photographs showing the work of the expedition.

According to reports, the Uzundara fortress became famous as a result of a joint expedition led by archaeologists and art scholars from Uzbekistan and Russia. In ancient times, the Uzundara fortress served as a military fortification on the border area of Bactria and Sogdiana. It was concluded that the unique exhibits found here date back to the time of Alexander the Great.

Since 2013, scientists from the Institute of Art Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been carrying out excavations on the territory of Uzundara fortress, located on the top of Mount Suvsiztog in Baysun district.

Various objects, metal decorations, bronze and ceramic lamps, various utensils and tools were found on the territory of the ancient fortress.

A roundtable discussion has been organized within the framework of the exhibition. The organizers informed about the Uzundara Fortress. The photographs presented provide an opportunity to get a more complete picture of the hard work carried out by the archaeologists, as well as the history of the fortress.

The exhibition will run until September 20.
