The role of representatives of civil society institutions in the fight against corruption

Uzbekistan hosts an Anti-Corruption Week on the occasion of December 9, International Anti-Corruption Day.

Within the framework of the week, the Anti-Corruption Agency organized a meeting with representatives of non-governmental non-profit organizations (NGOs) on “Participation of representatives of civil society institutions in the fight against corruption: problems and solutions”.

This event, organized by the Ministry of Justice together with the Office of the Prosecutor General, the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Regional Dialogue International Non-Governmental Organization (Slovenia), was attended by representatives of more than forty NGOs operating in various spheres.

The participants considered issues of broad involvement of civil society institutions, in particular, representatives of NGOs in the process of combating corruption, strengthening their participation and increasing activity in ensuring the implementation of reforms in the sphere, as well as further strengthening cooperation in this direction.

A mutual exchange of views took place on the problems that hinder the full use of the capabilities of NGOs in combating corruption, as well as concrete and practical solutions to eliminate them.

Issues such as new methods and tools of NGOs in the fight against corruption, the study of the best practices of foreign countries in these processes, mechanisms for preventing corruption and building integrity through the media were discussed in detail.

The issues of implementing social projects to prevent and combat corruption based on the implementation of social partnership and public control together with NGOs were considered.
