The role of enterprises with foreign investments in the economy of Uzbekistan
10:13 / 2022-11-23

Experts from the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research analyzed the role of enterprises with foreign investment in the country’s economy.

It turned out that in 2017-2021 the number of enterprises with foreign investment increased by 2.7 times and as of January 1, 2022, amounted to over 13.2 thousand units. Representatives from more than 50 countries invested in Uzbekistan’s economy, but the most significant investments come from China, Russia, Türkiye, Germany and South Korea.

Most of the enterprises with foreign investments operate in the industry (30.6 percent) and services (28.5 percent). Enterprises with foreign investment employ about 6 percent of the total number of officially employed in the economy, they account for 15 percent of production and 24 percent of investment in the economy. The number of enterprises of this type is 2.5 percent of the total number of operating enterprises, but in 2021 they accounted for 19.8 percent of foreign trade turnover, including 19.7 percent of exports and 25 percent of imports.

The analysis shows that enterprises with foreign investments are the most active and productive category of economic entities. The Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 includes attracting $70 billion of foreign investment to the economy over the next 5 years and increasing the volume of exports of products by 2026 to $30 billion.

To achieve these goals, it is important to increase the number of enterprises with foreign investment and expand the activity of their export activities.
