The United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund and the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan presented the results of the Joint UNDP-UNFPA Program funded by the Government of Japan during the final meeting of the Coordinating Council of the program.
The joint program was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan, the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, the Ministries of Health of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan, Agriculture, Housing and Communal Services of Karakalpakstan, Karauzak, Chimbay, Bozatau district hokimiyats, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Karakalpakstan and the Council of Farmers, Dehkan Farms and Owners of Household Lands of Karakalpakstan. Their representatives also took part in the final meeting of the Coordinating Council.
The joint program, which has been in effect since 2020, was aimed at achieving two key goals – improving the quality of medical services and expanding income generation opportunities for the population.
Following the joint efforts, over 20 thousand rural residents received access to drinking water, electricity, improved health and education services.
