A press conference on the results of the 12th Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers took place.

Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha informed about the event’s results.

The conference was organized in Khiva, a tourist city of the Islamic world in 2024. It was dedicated to the sustainable development of the tourism industry. The chairmanship has passed from Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan. It was stressed that during Uzbekistan’s presidency, all measures will be taken to bring cooperation in tourism to a new level.

Statements by ministers and heads of delegations were heard, and proposals aimed at enhancing tourism cooperation in the OIC territory were discussed. Special attention was paid to improving the criteria for selecting tourist cities in the OIC, with the goal of increasing their tourism potential by choosing small and promising cities.

It was announced that Dakar will become the tourist city of the Islamic world in 2025, Cairo in 2026, and Lahore in 2027.

It was decided to widely develop pilgrimage, environmental, and medical tourism to diversify the tourism sector.
