Many large projects that contribute to the welfare of the population through the development of road, transport, energy and communication infrastructure are being implemented in our country.

The thermal power plant that is being built in Turakurgan district in accordance with the resolution of the First President of our country “On measures of organizing the construction of a 900 MW thermal power plant in Namangan region” of March 28, 2013 is one of the promising projects aimed at increasing the potential of the country’s energy sector.

According to this project, designed for 2013-2020, it is planned to put into operation two steam and gas turbines with a capacity of 450 megawatts each, totaling 900 megawatts, which will allow to fully meet the needs of the regions of Fergana valley in electric power, eliminate problems in this direction, save fuel resources, most importantly, create hundreds of new workplaces.

This project, implemented by order of “Uzbekenergo” joint-stock company with a total value of almost 1 billion 200 million dollars, will be financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, “Uzbekenergo” joint-stock company and the State budget.

Over the past period, significant work has been implemented at this facility within the framework of major construction and installation activities.

– Construction of the station began in 2013, – says N.Nasibaliyev, acting director of the unitary enterprise “Construction of Turakurgan thermal power plant”. – To this day, the road leading to the facility, communication systems, a two-story administrative building, fire safety facilities, a factory with a production capacity of 120 cubic meters of concrete per hour and other subsidiary, outbuildings have already been built. At present, activities on construction of residential buildings for 750 specialists, who will work in the future at the station, laying water pipes, steam and gas turbines, control room, central and other warehouses are continuing at an accelerated pace. 1 million 925 thousand cubic meters of the planned 2 million 513 thousand cubic meters of excavation work have already been completed.

Indeed, more than 90 hectares of land allocated for a thermal power plant are a huge construction site. More than 370 employees are working here, including 42 foreign specialists. More than 80 units of special equipment were brought in. By the end of this year, it is planned to carry out construction and installation works at the amount of 100 million dollars.

The main contractor for the construction of power units is a consortium of Japanese companies “Mitsubishi corporation” and “Mitsubishi hitachi power systems”. “Calik energy” Turkish company is a subcontractor in this project. The quality of construction works will be observed by the customer and consultant – the “TEPSKO” Japanese company.

It should be noted that special attention is paid to the issue of training personnel for a thermal power plant. Since the current academic year, a professional college in the village of Yortepa in Turakurgan district has been converted to a college of energy. Qualified personnel will be trained here in nine specialties. Currently, 270 boys and girls are being trained in specialties necessary for working at a thermal power plant. Namangan Engineering Construction Institute also started training highly qualified power engineers. They will pass the production practice at a new facility with subsequent employment.

Full launch of the 1st power unit is scheduled for December 2019, the 2nd power unit and thermal power plant – for March 2020. This will not only provide the Fergana valley with electricity, but will also play an important role in socio-economic development of the entire country.
