The President to meet with World Bank Vice President Anna Bjerde

Deputy Head of the Administration of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan – Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov held a briefing for journalists.

Mr. Asadov informed about the activities of the Head of the state over the past week.

On September 19, the President chaired an extended meeting on measures to further increase the potential of domestic and inbound tourism in the country. At the meeting, the state of work carried out in tourism in the regions was analyzed. The huge opportunities in this regard were indicated and the tasks for their use were defined.

On September 20, the Head of the state chaired a meeting on further accelerating and ensuring the effectiveness of reforms.

On this day, the President received his Advisor on Economic Development, Effective Public Administration and International Cooperation, Suma Chakrabarti. At the meeting, the results of the reform in the economy and management in the country and plans were considered.

On September 21, the Head of the state got acquainted with the main indicators achieved in the chemical industry and the presentation of planned projects.

On September 22, the President attended and addressed an extraordinary session of the Tashkent Regional Council of People’s Deputies in Nurafshan. The organizational issue was discussed at the meeting. The President recommended the candidacy of Zoir Mirzayev for the post of Hokim of Tashkent region. His candidacy was approved by the Tashkent Regional Council of People’s Deputies.

The President also got acquainted with the presentation of construction projects during the week.

Projects for the construction of the Olympic Village, “Yangi O’zbekiston” (New Uzbekistan) University, sports centers in mahallas and a medical cluster in Tashkent were considered.

The Olympic Village complex will host the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Tashkent. By international requirements, an Olympic stadium, indoor sports complexes, a water sports palace, training grounds, and a rowing pool will be built in the city.

A place was allocated in Mirzo-Ulugbek district in Tashkent for the New Uzbekistan University. The construction of educational buildings, an administration building, dormitories for teachers and students, a canteen, a library, a laboratory, and a sports complex were designed. A Presidential School is operating in this area. In the future, the Presidential Education Institutions Agency will also be located here. Thus, a single complex specializing in education will be located in this territory.

As part of the project to create a medical cluster in Tashkent with the support of the Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), it is planned to build an adult medical center, an oncology hospital and a higher education institution.

These three complexes, together with the existing Children’s Medical Center, form a single cluster. An advanced system based on Korean experience in teaching and treatment will be created here. The hospitals will have 900 beds. Construction work will start in 2023.

Last week the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan had telephone conversations with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The Head of the state congratulated the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his birthday.

This week, the Head of the state will hold several meetings on the economic and social development of the country.

Today managers and responsible persons will provide reports on promising areas in the electrical industry and the main tasks for the future.

Presentations will be held on measures to accelerate the transformation of the country’s higher education institutions specialized in architecture and construction.

This week the President will meet with the World Bank Vice President Anna Bjerde.
