In his address to the participants and guests of the International Conference on “Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development” on July 26, 2022, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan stressed the concern about decreased attention of the world community towards Afghanistan, including the socio-economic and humanitarian crisis.
In this context, it is especially crucial to discuss the possibilities and conditions for resolving the problems of Afghanistan within the framework of the current conference. The President noted the need for “forming a broad representation of all levels of the Afghan society in public administration, ensuring basic human rights and freedoms, especially women”, who make up about half of the entire population. Achieving peace, stability and development, including in healthcare and education, depends largely on the rights and opportunities of women and girls in Afghanistan, their active contribution to the future of their country. A change in the position of the interim government of the country on this issue will help to build confidence and open up real prospects for further international cooperation.
