“The Peony Capital” in Luoyang
21:18 / 2025-04-22

A group of Uzbekistan journalists is visiting China as part of the CIPCC program.

They will spend six days in Luoyang, a city in central China known for its ancient history and unique natural parks. The most famous of these is the Luoyang National Peony Park, where hundreds of thousands of vibrant peonies bloom each spring. The media representatives arrived here on their first day.

The beauty of this 40-hectare garden inspires creative minds. The park is home to more than 1,200 varieties of peonies, some dating back over a thousand years. Every April, the Luoyang Peony Festival is held here – a nationally recognized event since 1983. On average, the park attracts over one million visitors during the festival.

In 2010, the National Peony Park was officially granted the “Peony Capital” title.

As a park representative notes, peonies have long been referred to in China as the “queens of flowers.” They symbolize not only beauty and refinement but also loyalty, blessing, and prestige. Peonies were first planted in Luoyang during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), which is now widely recognized as their birthplace. The Luoyang Peony Festival is considered a tribute to this deep-rooted legacy.

Another remarkable aspect of the park is its innovative integration of digital technology, eco-friendly design, and cultural heritage. Visitors can access detailed information about each peony variety using QR codes, enjoy aerial views via drones, or explore the grounds with interactive maps.

The Luoyang Peony Park is a model project embodying China’s principle of green development. The government actively promotes eco-tourism, the revitalization of historical heritage, and the growth of domestic tourism. At the same time, the garden serves as a national symbol and a cultural gateway for international visitors.
