Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova met with the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, Ambassador Urszula Gacek.

The parties exchanged views on the conditions created for voters and the Ombudsman’s role in ensuring voters’ political rights.

Feruza Eshmatova noted that the Commissioner for Human Rights institution pays special attention to the observance of human rights during the electoral process. During their visits to penitentiary institutions, employees of the institute and representatives of public organizations explained to prisoners and convicts who have the right to vote the procedure for participating in elections.

Urszula Gacek highly appreciated the recent reforms in the country and especially noted the opportunities provided to the Ombudsman in this direction.

The parties exchanged views on the issues of strengthening cooperation in ensuring human rights.
