The Olympic Movement of Uzbekistan celebrates its 30th Anniversary

A solemn event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan was held at the Palace of International Forums “Uzbekistan” as part of the 77th meeting of the Executive Board of the Olympic Council of Asia, in Tashkent.

A congratulatory message from the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the members of the National Olympic Committee and the Olympic Movement was read out at the opening ceremony of the conference.

Winners in various categories were awarded as part of the festivities.

Uzbekistan Boxing Federation was awarded the title of “The Federation that brought the largest number of medals at the Olympics”, Uzbekistan Weightlifting Federation – the “Federation that prepared Olympic record-holders”, Uzbekistan Wrestling Association – “The Association that has continuously won medals for 30 years”.

It is known that the glorious victories of our Olympians in the international arena are recognized not only on a continental, but also on a global scale.

Over the past 30 years of the Olympic Movement, representatives of the country participated in 7 Summer and 8 Winter Olympic Games as an independent sports team of Uzbekistan, winning 39 medals. They raised the flag of the Motherland high, and demonstrated the authority of the country on the world stage. 13 of the medals won at the Olympics are gold, and there is some historical significance behind this.

During the celebrations, Mirjalol Qosimov was awarded as the most productive athlete of Uzbekistan in 1991-2001, Abdulla Tangriyev – in 2001-2011, and Oksana Chusovitina – in 2011-2021. Rishod Sobirov was recognized as the “Athlete who won the largest number of medals at the Olympic Games”. Ravshan Ermatov was awarded “For great merits in increasing the sports glory of the country in the world”. The National Football Team of Uzbekistan in 1994 was recognized as “The most glorious national team of the 30th anniversary”.

Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, Chairman of the Wrestling Association of Uzbekistan Salim Abduvaliyev, judoka, Olympic medalist in Atlanta Armen Bagdasarov, Olympic winner in Tokyo Ulugbek Rashitov and others were also awarded.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Acting President of the Olympic Council of Asia Raja Randhir Singh, Minister of Sports Development Adkham Ikramov, Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia Otabek Umarov, representatives of the International Olympic Committee and national Olympic committees of several foreign countries, sports federations of Uzbekistan.
