President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chairs a videoconference on the accelerated development of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential.
It was noted that the measures taken in this direction began to give the expected results. In particular, the number of foreign tourists who visited the country in 2022 increased 3 times compared to 2021 (5.2 million, industry exports – $1.6 billion).
11.5 million trips were organized as part of domestic tourism programs, including for 1.5 million low-income residents, youth and the elderly.
The creation of a new tourist center in Samarkand has attracted an additional 2 million tourists.
Large-scale preparations are being carried out for the forthcoming General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in Uzbekistan this year. One of the high results of activities in this direction is that Uzbekistan’s historic city of Samarkand was chosen as the 2023 World Tourism Capital at the 24th General Assembly of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Spain.
