A solemn event dedicated to October 21 – the Day of the Uzbek Language was held at the Palace of International Forums “Uzbekistan” in Tashkent. As part of the celebration, a flower-laying ceremony took place early in the morning at the monument to the great poet and thinker Alisher Navoi on the Alley of Litterateurs.
The event was attended by officials from ministries and agencies, representatives of public and creative organizations, writers and poets, scientists, educators, cultural figures, teachers, students, as well as members of national cultural centers.
In the palace foyer, a scientific, educational, and artistic exhibition was organized, showcasing the beauty and uniqueness of the Uzbek language. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the latest scientific and innovative developments, as well as literature, informational materials, and works dedicated to the study and promotion of the Uzbek language.
The Head of the Communications Department of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Press Secretary to the Head of State, Sherzod Asadov, read out the congratulatory message from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the people of Uzbekistan on the occasion of the Uzbek Language Day.
As emphasized in the message, thanks to the truly historic reforms launched in the country eight years ago, a new era in the development of the Uzbek language has begun. Based on the adopted targeted decrees, resolutions, and programs, significant work has been carried out to strengthen the language’s role and status as the state language, and to transform it into a language of modern science, knowledge, information technology, and international relations.
The Rector of the Tashkent State University of the Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi, Shukhrat Sirojiddinov, spoke about the importance of the recently adopted Presidential Resolution “On Additional Measures for the Further Development of the State Language”. The renowned poet and recipient of the Order of Friendship, Shodmonqul Salom, recited a poem dedicated to the native language.
Today, more than 50 million people speak the Uzbek language. Thanks to the continuous attention given in the country to the development of the state language, its prestige on the international stage continues to grow.
Representatives of various nationalities and ethnic groups living in Uzbekistan, as well as foreign guests, shared their thoughts on the uniqueness and distinctive beauty of the Uzbek language. As a gift from the Department for the Development of the State Language, they were presented with encyclopedias featuring the works of Alisher Navoi.
The celebration concluded with a grand concert program featuring renowned artists and young performers.
The ceremonial event was attended by the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Nuriddin Ismoilov, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women, Zulaykho Mahkamova.
