The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Tashkent.

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Tashkent.

The document, signed by the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov and Deputy Assistant Administrator of USAID Javier Piedra, is aimed at implementation of projects on improving energy efficiency, using renewable energy and Uzbekistan's participation in Central Asian energy sector.

It should be noted that in recent years Uzbekistan has been actively involved in development of regional electricity market in Central Asia. The country successfully imports electricity from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as exports electricity to Afghanistan. The project aimed at ensuring parallel operation of power systems of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan is being completed.

At the event, Javier Piedra noted that USAID also plans to implement necessary measures and carry out activities that will attract investment in Uzbekistan.

Such cooperation will contribute to further strengthening effective cooperation between the two countries.
