President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the ceremony on the occasion of May 9 – the Day of Remembrance and Honor and the 79th anniversary of the great victory in World War II.
In New Uzbekistan, the principle “In the name of human honor and dignity” underlies the reforms carried out in all areas.
This feature is also manifested in the ongoing work to perpetuate the memory and exploits of our ancestors, who gave their lives on the battlefields of the Second World War for the freedom of the Motherland and people, the brave military personnel who died during the years of independence in the name of peace and tranquility of our people and the fulfillment of their official duty, providing attention and care to veterans who selflessly worked in the rear and steadfastly overcame all the hardships of the war.
On the initiative of the Head of state, the majestic Victory Park was erected in Tashkent as a vivid symbol of our people’s exploits. In a short time, it became a place of universal attraction.
Today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Victory Park and took part in the memorial ceremony, laying a wreath at the “Ode to Fortitude” monument.
Each exhibition in this complex reflects the terrible realities of war. The monument “Ode to Fortitude” was erected in honor of all women who lost their children and loved ones in the war. The sad music flowing through the park reminds us of the losses of our people and the fate of the dead.
“We celebrate this date with both joy and yearning. The severe disasters of war that befell our people are not forgotten even after many years. At that time, the population of our country was 6.5 million people, of which more than 1 million 950 thousand took part in the war. More than 538 thousand of them fell in bloody battles, more than 158 thousand were missing, and this is an irreparable loss for us. We have created many such memorials and museums in recent years to reinforce this truth. Our efforts are important for educating our people, especially young people”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
Today, Victory Park serves as a school of patriotism and peace for our fellow citizens and youth. “Meetings of three generations”, memory events, and history lessons are held here. So far, the complex has been visited by more than 2 million 200 thousand people, who became acquainted with the history of the courage and resilience of the multinational people of Uzbekistan during the Second World War.
The complex’s staff created about 50 album books and monographs, introduced hundreds of previously unknown historical evidence into scientific circulation, compiled a list of approximately 2 million war participants, and collected information about missing soldiers based on citizens’ appeals.
In Uzbekistan, honors are regularly paid to military personnel and law enforcement officers who died during the years of independence in the line of duty, war, and labor veterans. In particular, the Presidential Decree of April 16, 2024, on the encouragement of participants in the Second World War, is another practical expression of such respect and attention. According to this decree, cash prizes were solemnly awarded to war participants and disabled people. The houses of lonely war and labor veterans and families of military personnel who died in the line of duty to defend our independence have been renovated and ennobled.
Representatives of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan, state and public organizations, mahalla activists, and elders attended the event and laid flowers at the “Ode to Fortitude” monument.
The President initiated the creation of another complex on the territory of Victory Park – the Alley of Heroes of Independence. During the visit, the project for this complex was presented.
“I think that by creating this alley as part of Victory Park and calling it the Alley of Heroes of Independence as a logical continuation of our work to exalt the human honor and dignity, we will realize the dreams and noble aspirations of our people”, the Head of state said. “Honoring the memory of our brave sons who died during the years of independence, defending the Republic of Uzbekistan, the peaceful and calm life of our people, is our duty and responsibility. The example of dedication they showed for the sake of peace and the future of our country will always serve as a model for our people, especially for the younger generation”.
According to a unique project developed jointly with foreign specialists, the names and memory of soldiers and officers who died in terrorist attacks against our country, as well as in the performance of military duty, will be immortalized in the Alley of Heroes of Independence.
The Head of state gave relevant instructions to the responsible persons regarding the ideological content and construction of the complex.
