At the meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the deputies in the first reading considered the draft law “On introducing amendments to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the creation of commissions on children’s issues”.
“This draft law was developed on the initiative of a group of our deputies by the Presidential Decree “On measures to further improve the system for ensuring the rights of children”, says Tursunoy Muradova, deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. – By this decree, the Republican Interdepartmental Commission on Juvenile Affairs, interdepartmental commissions on juvenile affairs of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and Tashkent, districts, and cities were transformed into the National Commission on Children, Commissions on Children of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions, Tashkent, districts, and cities. However, the term “interdepartmental commissions on juvenile affairs” is still used in the current legal documents. This prevents the newly formed commissions from fully fulfilling their tasks based on the legislation, and also gives rise to misunderstandings in law enforcement practice. The draft law provides for changing the concept of “interdepartmental commission on juvenile affairs” to “commission on children’s issues” in the Criminal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Code of Administrative Responsibility, the Labor Code, the Family Code, as well as the laws “On the Prosecutor’s Office”, “On the protection of children from information harmful to their health” and “On the state duty”.
The draft law was adopted by deputies.
