The International Folk Music Festival kicks off in Margilan

The International Folk Music Festival “The Great Silk Road” has started in Margilan.

Folklore collectives of Uzbekistan and performers from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and specialists of the sphere are participating in the event.

The Great Silk Road played a significant role in various peoples' socio-economic and cultural development. Based on cooperation between the countries, new roads have been laid that contribute to the rapprochement of nations. There is an opportunity to increase the cultural life of the population through acquaintance with folklore, culture of other ethnic groups.

Folklore is actively developing in Uzbekistan along with other types of art thanks to the attention paid by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to culture and art, the rich cultural heritage of the people. In particular, the “Great Silk Road” Festival in Margilan every two years became a great event.

“The main purpose of its organization is to popularize folklore, preserve, study, and develop our rich musical heritage, and encourage performers”, says Deputy Hokim of the region Khurshidjon Akhmedov. – A scientific-creative conference, workshops, roundtable discussions, concerts, and exhibitions will be held at the event. Folklore groups, song and dance ensembles, and artists will perform.

A Scientific-Practical Conference “The importance of Margilan silk fabrics on the international market in the Middle Ages” was held within the framework of the festival, organized for the second time.
