The implementation of the Samarkand Initiative to be considered at the International Samarkand Forum 2023
17:27 / 2022-09-29

The International Conference dedicated to the results of the Samarkand SCO Summit in Tashkent continues.

Addressing the event, Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Eldor Aripov noted that at the SCO CHS Summit the member states put forward many different initiatives, the implementation of which will contribute to the expansion and deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation in the SCO space.

According to him, the most important of them is the Samarkand Solidarity Initiative for Common Security and Prosperity, voiced by the Leader of Uzbekistan.

This proposal by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was a logical continuation of his article, published on the eve of the Samarkand Summit.

Eldor Aripov stressed, the Samarkand Initiative can be considered as a kind of response to the main challenges and problems of the modern world order identified by him in the publication, primarily related to the lack of mutual trust.

It was noted that it is precisely the lack of trust and mutual understanding in relations between states that is the root cause of the global crisis of the modern world order.

In this context, Eldor Aripov emphasized, the Samarkand Initiative is designed to unite states and peoples with different economies, geography, culture for joint reflection and search for new approaches to ensuring security and sustainable development.

In other words, the ISRS representative noted, it was proposed to form a new global dialogue platform on the current issues of our time, free from geopolitical rivalry, cultural and value differences and ideological bias.

“We can say that the successful model of interaction within the SCO is being transferred to the global level, turning into the basis for a new format of international cooperation”, Eldor Aripov said.

“I am convinced that the Samarkand Spirit put forward by the President of Uzbekistan as a symbol of the embodiment of cooperation, mutual understanding and friendship, will give us the necessary strength and capabilities to jointly cope with this responsible task”.

“Issues of the practical implementation of this initiative are planned to be jointly considered at the International Samarkand Forum in 2023 with the participation of political leaders, authoritative representatives of the public, business, academic and expert circles”, the ISRS representative said.

Along with this, to promote the Samarkand Initiative, it is planned to develop and adopt an Action Program that will ensure practical coordination of all activities, proposals and decisions of the Samarkand Initiative.

“In a word, this is not a one-time project, a new political and diplomatic process is being launched, aimed at building a permanent mechanism of interaction at the global level”, concluded the ISRS Director.

As previously reported, the event, organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the International Institute for Central Asia, with the assistance of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the SCO, brought together more than 30 prominent representatives from among the expert and analytical circles of the SCO member states, as well as several foreign countries, including the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Hungary and other countries.
