Tashkent hosted the first international forum on “The importance of global ratings and indices in reforms implemented in the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

The event organized by the Ministry of Finance was attended by the heads of several ministries and agencies, employees of domestic non-governmental non-profit organizations, representatives of foreign governments, international financial institutions and rating agencies, and investment banks.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Minister of Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov emphasized that in recent years, global ratings and indices have become important in determining and implementing economic, social and institutional reforms in the country. It was noted that Uzbekistan ranks 76th among 190 countries in Doing Business.

UN Resident Coordinator for the Republic of Uzbekistan Helena Fraser said that improvement of Uzbekistan’s position in global rankings and indices is defined in the Action Strategy on five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021.

Within the framework of the forum, a workshop was organized by foreign and domestic experts for employees of ministries and agencies responsible for working with ratings and indices, representatives of commercial banks, insurance companies, and the private sector. Ways to improve the position of Uzbekistan in the Index of Economic Freedom, the role of civil society in raising the country’s image in the international arena, rating the risks and threats of public debt were examined and discussed.
