The Great Silk Road: The Golden Heritage of Uzbekistan and China
11:34 / 2022-09-20

Samarkand hosts an exhibition under this title.

The first hall of the exposition is called “Nature Paintings of China and Uzbekistan”. It presents an installation of products made of silk, as well as animated scenes based on the wall paintings of Afrasiab. Archaeological finds and objects are reflecting the culture of China in the pre-Islamic period.

The second hall presents Uzbek ceramics, created on the model of Chinese porcelain products of various historical periods. The central exposition of the exhibition is the mulberry tree, a symbol of fertility and wealth. Here you can get acquainted with the legend of silk production and the history of cocoons. The traditions of silk harvesting are presented. Guests can get acquainted with the process of making a silk carpet using a loom.

The exhibition also presents canvases dedicated to the theme of the Great Silk Road by the famous artist Sanjar Jabborov. The most important part of the exposition is a 7th-century composition depicting a Chinese princess heading in a boat towards Samarkand guarded by servants and bodyguards. This composition is an element of the wall paintings of Afrasiab.
