The Geographical Council of Turkic States established

Tashkent hosted the constituent assembly of the Geographical Council of Turkic States (GCTS) with representatives of geographical societies of Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. An agreement on the establishment of the Council was signed at the meeting.

The purpose of creating this Council is to improve further comprehensive cooperation between Turkic-speaking research institutes and public associations. At the same time, it is supposed to support all organizations and institutions engaged in theoretical or practical work in geography, local history, and other related sciences and coordinate joint efforts in all areas. It is planned to actively work together to strengthen the population's geographical and ecological knowledge, promote advanced scientific ideas and achievements, identify problems related to nature protection in the Council member countries, and address current issues.

The Head of the Geographical Society of Uzbekistan, Oybek Norinboyev, was elected Secretary General of the Geographical Council of the Turkic States with headquarters in Tashkent for three years.

The Council will participate in international projects, including science, education, environmental education, an economic approach, expanding cooperation in culture and tourism, developing a common scientific position on issues related to the history of Türkiye, ensuring the environmental agenda, and achieving the goal.

Priority tasks, such as holding international geography Olympiads, preventing global, regional, and local environmental problems, and developing joint measures to eliminate existing issues, were defined at the meeting.
