The first batch of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine delivered to Uzbekistan
13:31 / 2021-04-23

The first batch of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine has been delivered to Uzbekistan.

The delivery was carried out with the practical assistance of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. Sputnik V, developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, was certified and approved for mass use in Uzbekistan in mid-February. The certification process began after receiving the necessary materials from the developers, in particular, the results of the third stage of clinical trials of the vaccine.

Half of the cost of the entire purchased volume of the Sputnik V vaccine was financed by the entrepreneur Alisher Usmanov.

In April-June it is planned to vaccinate about 4 million Uzbekistan citizens against COVID-19. By the end of 2021, this number could reach 7 million, or about 20 percent of the country’s population.

Activities are also underway to deliver additional doses of Uzbekistan – China vaccine ZF-UZ-VAC2001 and the AstraZeneca vaccine to the country.
