Meetings are being held in cities and districts of Jizzakh region to inform the general public about the changes being introduced to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The events are attended by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils, representatives of Pakhtakor District Hokimiyat, responsible organizations, activists of mahallas, the general public and media workers.
Officials explained in detail the essence of the important amendments to the Basic Law of the country, put forward by the President during the meeting with members of the Constitutional Commission on June 20, as well as the proposals of citizens.
It was noted that according to the current legislation, the parliament has the authority to amend the Basic Law, however, if constitutional reforms are implemented taking into account the opinion of citizens and with their support, this will be an expression of the will of the people, and the adopted document will become a truly people’s Constitution. And this will fully comply with the principle “The only source and author of the Constitution are the people”.
At the event in Pakhtakor district, the Draft Constitutional Law “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was fully supported by citizens. It was noted that the Constitutional Commission has established systematic work to receive opinions and suggestions from the population.
