Geneva hosts the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The delegation of the Parliament of Uzbekistan is taking part in it.

The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, met with Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva.

The directions of practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations, in particular, issues of achieving Sustainable Development Goals and expanding joint projects and programs to ensure gender equality, were discussed.

It was noted that cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations has been brought to a qualitatively new level. Almost 140 projects and programs are being implemented.

Tatiana Valovaya highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s actions in the implementation of the SDGs.  She also expressed her opinion on organizing a support event called “Strategy for Sustainable Development after 2030” within the framework of the Asian Women’s Forum, to be held in Uzbekistan. According to her, the Samarkand Forum will serve as a platform for women deputies to share experiences and develop proposals for implementing 17 goals after 2030.

Views were also exchanged on ensuring human rights and freedoms, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on systematically continuing the dialogue and strengthening cooperation through expanding joint projects.
