This point of view was expressed by the Chairman of the Committee on Innovative Development, Information Policy and Information Technologies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Abdullayev, addressing the roundtable discussion on the constitutional reform as the basis for ensuring the rule of law, security, development of a free and fair civil society.
The event, organized in the Brussels Press Club with the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan, was attended by representatives of the European Parliament, the EU Commission, the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, experts from leading think tanks, media from European countries and the host country, as well as Uzbekistan delegation led by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov.
Outlining in detail the essence and significance of the amendments in the text of the Draft Constitution of Uzbekistan concerning the strengthening of guarantees of freedom of speech and information, Member of the Parliament of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Abdullayev noted that they comply with all modern democratic standards in the right of access to information and create a good foundation for ensuring the openness of the activities of state authorities, free access of society to information.
According to the deputy, for the first time, constitutional and legal guarantees of freedom of access to the Internet are being consolidated, which, in the context of the widespread introduction of modern information and communication technologies, the active use of social networks by citizens, will undoubtedly become an important guarantee of freedom of opinions in society and their unhindered dissemination.
