The 68th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) is taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The session is also attended by the Uzbekistan delegation led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairperson of the Republican Commission on Increasing the Role of Women in Society, Gender Equality and Family, Tanzila Narbayeva.
This prestigious forum is attended by representatives of parliament and government bodies, ministries and organizations, non-governmental structures, and civil society institutions worldwide.
The participants discussed issues of ending poverty, achieving gender equality, and empowering all women by strengthening institutional capacity and financing and implementing the principles of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
According to UN Women, 10.3 percent of women worldwide live in extreme poverty today. Progress in eradicating poverty must occur 26 times faster to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The conference, therefore, places a particular focus on developing action and attracting investment to help end women’s poverty and improve gender equality.

At the 68th session, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis spoke on behalf of the region of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, noting that today, trade and economic cooperation is actively developing between our countries, joint investment projects are being implemented, favorable conditions have been created for interaction in ensuring gender equality, and outlined common approaches to cooperation and has put forward several important initiatives.

During the session, the Chairperson of the Senate, Tanzila Narbayeva, met with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd.
At the meeting, issues of consistent expansion of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Switzerland were discussed, including the development of political dialogue and the implementation of joint projects in trade, economic, investment, and technological spheres.
It was noted that today, 19 projects are being implemented jointly with Switzerland in the automotive, textile, pharmaceutical, food industries, livestock farming, and infrastructure. Both countries have great potential and ample opportunities to increase this indicator several times.
The prospects for cooperation in interparliamentary relations were also considered. In particular, views were exchanged on the intensification of relations at the level of specialized committees and the creation of friendship groups in the two countries’ parliaments. At the meeting, practical proposals were put forward to develop partnership in several areas. The importance of developing cooperation in gender equality and sharing experience in this direction was emphasized.
The parties also focused on enhancing financial and technical cooperation in implementing socially significant programs to improve the situation in the Aral Sea region.

Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva also met with the Vice-Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women (NWCCW) under the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), Huang Xiaowei.
The parties discussed trade, economic and investment interaction between the two countries, strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, and enhancing collaboration in poverty reduction.
It was emphasized that the open and trusting relationship between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Xi Jinping created a solid foundation for enhancing and strengthening multilateral cooperation.
The parties exchanged views on the implementation of joint projects and programs in gender equality, and it was proposed to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation. An agreement was also reached on partnership within the framework of social protection and insurance, exchange of experience in providing targeted assistance to the population, and study of legislative activities in this direction.
